"So I tried the refinished balls just for the heck of it and here are my results: For the testing I used a NEW 2010 ProV1X  VS. a Golfballnut.com Recycled 2010 ProV1X's. Off the driver and longer irons and woods, the shots were the same distance wise and shot dispersion wise (right/left). The balls were great in this category. Off the wedges is where the difference really became noticeable. On full wedges the recycled balls would spin backwards about 2 feet, while the NEW ball would spin backwards about 10 feet. I hit dozens of these shots to verify. I just couldn’t believe that it would make that much difference. It did. On short chips and pitches, the NEW ProV1X would 1 hop then stop on the green. The recycled ball would hop and then release another 10 feet or more. This was really a problem for me as I rely on my golf ball to stop a certain way because I am used to the performance. The urethane cover on the NEW ball was far More Worn than that of the recycled ball after testing. This indicated to me that the recycled ball had a much more hard cover or it was more slick creating less back spin. Andrew – there is a difference.
